April Winners

THANKS to everyone who entered the April Challenge - Furry Friends. We enjoy looking at the variety of entries and are pleased to announce the winners for this month.

Congratulations to Marina for entering for the first time. You've won a packet of Honey Chai Collectables. Marina entered 2 layouts this month. The first layout is one of her daughter Ella and her furry friend. Marina says, "This is Ella (aged 2) with her fuzzy friend Tiggy. He goes everywhere with her, now he is less orange, does not have stripes and not a lot of stuffing. Here she is exploring outdoors with her faithful friend. I put the main photo on a lean because the way she carries Tiggy means he only ever sees the world on a lean." 

Of her second layout Marina says, "This is my daughter Ella in a rare quiet moment, captured without her realising I was taking her photo. The sketch provided the inspiration for the layout. I liked the simplicity of the sketch which allows the image to be the feature.

Hey There Everyone in "Scrappyland"...Robbi here today

to show you a couple of little creations I have been working on for Artfull Crafts
Pippa has kindly come along to help me show you this first layout (actually she wouldn't get off the sheet and then lay down on it in the sun!....I have been told never work with Husbands and Animals...well that's my version of it!!!)

I have used the latest "Storyteller" collection from Kaisercraft and I absolutely love the flowers/roses and colours, I am thinking most of it is really following the lines of Graphic 45 and is made to be cut out, but for those of us that like fussy cutting its all good....for those of us that don't ...conn someone into it or have a go yourself  - the worst you are going to do is have to run a sponge with vintage photo or sepia on it around your edges and hide the roughness of your cutting, however some of the rough edges are warranted and remember scrapping isn't always straight lines and nice neat edges.

Ok so here's a little quick treat for those of you that would like to create this layout....I will give you some instructions:-

Required Ingredients:-

Art of Life - Creative (base)         

Storyteller - Vintage Die Cut, Myth, Reminisce, History, Journal

Kaisercard - Forest

Chipboard for lifting

Misc goodies - paper doily, shabby rose strip, mini roses

 

Construction:-

*Using the Vintage Die Cut paper, remove the inside piece leaving the very inside dark line, ink all the edges,

*Using the Creative paper, heavily distress and ink the edges,

*Using the chipboard cut strips add to the die cut frame, and then add to the base as shown - make sure there is a edge     around the inside frame so you can tuck the flower strip inside etc

*Using the doily cut in half and add to the top and bottom as shown on the base

*Using the History paper cut a piece 6 1/4' x 7 1/2" (16x19cm) distress ink and add as shown over the doily pieces

*Using the Myth paper, cut a "L" shape about 1" deep and add to the History paper as shown, it is to just giver a different colour edge

*Using the Forest cardstock, cut a piece 5" x 6 1/4" (12.5 x 15cm), distress, off set and add as shown

*Using the Reminisce paper borders fussy cut round the flower strip, ink the edges trim off the excess length and add to the base as shown under the left side framework, using the leftover piece, add some chipboard and ad to the top left corner

*Using the pocket watch embellishment from the Reminisce paper, fussy cut it out, ink the edges and add as shown to the flower strip

*Border punch 2 strips using the same punch and offset, ink the edges and add as shown

*Using the Journal paper, cut out the blue flower piece from the bottom right hand corner, ink and add as shown to the bottom right of our framework

*Find a nice saying that goes with your photo - I have used the Friends Forever one from the Journal paper, ink the edges, add to chipboard and add as shown

*Add a Papervine - Shabby Rose rose strip as shown with some smaller roses in the centres

Congratulations your layout is now complete.

 

So let Liz know when the Storytellers paper comes in tell liz you would like these ones above and get creating....here is a closer peek at the layout (without Pippa!)

Ok here is a card I also made using the same paper collection

once again some more fussy cutting but by now you should have mastered it!

 For this card I have used the Confession and Fiction papers from the Storyteller Collection, along with  some watercolour paper for the inside layer, so it gives the card some strength

 



 

 This layout above is from the

Honey Chai Collection 

I have cut out one of the wires with the birds attached from the Cardamon paper and some little postage stamps from one of the Tim Holtz mini dies. The base paper is Tarragon paper and the Ginger paper is the brown coloured one with the writing on in the centre. I have lifted this layer with chipboard. The envelope is made using the Nutmeg paper and of course it wouldn't be a Kaisercraft layout without using some goodies from the Collectables Goodies.

 

Well that's it from me for this Blog post I hope you are all well and now hanging out to get your hands on the Storyteller papers and have a go at the layout. When you are reading this I will be flying home from Auckland after being at the V8 Supercars over the Anzac Weekend.....can you imagine it...the vibration from the cars, the noise from the cars and now and then the smell from the cars as they wiz past at over 200ks.....oh yes and then theres the hot drivers in their driving suits....your naughty ! when I said hot I meant "HOT" because those cars get up to some horrendous temperatures and the guys are dripping wet when they leave the vehicles......now that's what I'm talking about lol

Melissa - Kaisercraft Happy Snaps Layouts

Hi all, its Melissa here, happy Monday morning!  I hope you had an awesome long weekend!  Today I'm sharing three layouts made with the new Kaisercraft Happy Snaps Collection.  This collection is described as perfect for the person who loves to journal, and I would also say it is trendy and contemporary with bright colours and camera icons etc, and perfect for documenting everyday life.

By the way, on the 15th of April this little darling arrived, our third baby, and second daughter, Brielle Alyssa Vining.  She is an absolute blessing to our family.

The first page I made was this one about my son's first day of school this year.  I used two different papers joined with the cut off strip.  I love the die cut pieces in this collection, they have perfect words and elements.  

My second layout featured this speciality paper, which I backed with a piece of 12 x 12 white card stock.  I especially love the notebook edges!  This layout is about how happy I am that my daughter loves visiting the library.  I had lots of fun layering the die cut pieces, and added extra dimension with twine bows.  The chipboard elements are by Making Memories and can be found in the shop here.

At this point I thought I was done, but when I looked at what I had left I decided to make one more page as I love this collection so much.  This final layout documents a little show that my daughter did with her childcare friends in Arrowtown during a trip.  The photo isn't great due to the shade on the green, however the memory is important and therefore scrap-worthy.  

For this page I cut apart some of the border stops on this paper, and layered some strips to anchor the photo.  I embellished with die cut pieces, punched butterflies and stickers.  Chipboard elements are by Making Memories and I added grey enamel dots.

I dropped large splats of black India ink on all my layout as a finishing touch.  The dates are missing on all my layouts because my laptop decided to have a tantrum!  All letter stickers are from this sheet.  You can purchase Happy Snaps in the online shop here.

Valou - Card with "Kaleidoscope Collection" - "Kaisercraft"

Hello everybody! 

Valou here with a new home decoration! 

After three weeks without to craft because of my arm covered in plaster, I am back with new creations who I hope will inspire you.

For this card, I used papers of the collection " Kaisercraft " - "Kaleidoscope". Edges are used with "Old Distresser". In every corner, I stuck half a white given lustre pearl.

To the left, I added a die-cut " Border Butterflies " realized with a dies " Joy! Craft ". I inked it to the ink "Distress Walnut Stain".

I used a digistamp new "Feeling" of "Sassy Studio Designs".

I cut it with a dies " Spellbinders- Nestabilities - Circles " and I stuck it with "Foam Tape". Under this die-cut, I stuck of the green creased ribbon "Green Tara" and the ribbon " Seam-White ".

On the height of my card, I added a die-cut "Embrace" of the collection " Kaleidoscope ".

Finally, I added a big turquoise blue flower, a flower of écru cherry tree, a brown rose, a pink rose, a Lilidaft écru, a pink pink Lilidaft and two buttons of pink roses.

Liz Gregory - Large Furry Friends

It's fun looking at all the challenge entries for April. Furry Friends is a really easy theme to find a piccie for. We don't have pets - well not house ones! We have friendly chickens (and they would come in the house if we let them), and we have some sheep and a couple of cows.

Meet Porter and Chuck: 

This photo was taken the frist day we got them (thanks Christine for doing the weaning!). They didn't want to stand and have their photo taken but they are much more friendly now (some silverbeet in hand does the trick)! They are much larger too. It's amazing how by gobbling grass each day they grow and grow (and one day we will gobble them and grow and grow...)

This layout was completed using Kaisercraft's Honey Chai collection - available now at Artfull Crafts.

Christine - Kaleidoscope Card Set

Hi there  - Christine here today with a card set I have made using Kaisercraft's Kaleidoscope Collection....

From the paper pad I chose different patterned papers to make the sunburst pattern to have for my base of each card. I really like to make these and love how they each look different. Here is a Youtube video to watch if you are not familiar with how to do this.

 For these 2 cards I cut out butterflies with my Memory Box Butterfly dies, used some collectables to join up the sunburst pattern to the base card and of course added some Bling!

 The squares on these cards have been diecut using Spellbinders Decorative Labels 1.  The butterfly is from the Butterflies sticker sheet.

 These 2 cards look quite different colour wise but just show the colour groupings you can get from this Collection. The black bird silhouette has been cut out with my Cameo.

For something to put my set of 6 cards in to give to a friend I have made this paper bag using the bag punch board. I have made it wider by cutting a separate panel from kraft card for the front. The back, sides and front strips were from the 12x12 paper and use the whole width of the 12" . This was easy to do and gives a bigger bag which will hold 6 cards and their envelopes.

Liz Gregory - April Sketch Inspiration

A few years ago my brother got married on Koh Samui, Thailand. Him and his wife live in London, but her family was from Australia and we were from NZ, so Thailand was the perfect mid-way point! This island didn't disappoint and we spent a wonderful week with the happy couple.

I couldn't resist using the May sketch to create a kit with Kaiser's Tropicana Papers. (Details below on how to purchase it.)

I love the way the transparency/overlay creates an effect when the light shines on it. It's a bit like the sun shining on water.

 The floral papers in the Tropicana range are perfet for cutting out, scrunching up in your hand, and putting together with a flower and brad in the centre.

This was simple scrapbooking - less than half an hour! That's how fabulous sketches are. Why don't you use the sketch provided for the month of April and give it a go! Make a card or a layout using it for inspiration. Alternatively, why not create something using the theme of the month - Furry Friends. Beck - Furry Friends Theme - Kaleidoscope Layout

Good morning again ladies...  What did you do to the weather?!!!  It sure is wet and nasty out there.  What a shame I have to be at work, rather than at home in front of the fire with my scrapping supplies.  Oh well, I do have to pay for said supplies somehow! :)

 

Yesterday I had a bit of a play with the scrumptious Kaleidoscope collection, which you can find online here.  I decided to use this month's sketch, and seeing as I had a beautiful photo of my brother-in-law's dog Duke, I decided to go with this month's Furry Friends theme too.  Here's the sketch:

 

And here's the finished layout.  I apologise for the photo - it was so dark this morning trying to photograph it, stupid winter weather.  It looks so much better in real life, so I will drop it into the store at lunchtime for you to see.

So as you can see I pretty much followed the sketch, although instead of three smaller photos on the left hand side, I decided to use some fussy cut flowers from the same paper range.  I tucked them underneath the edge of my top paper layer.  I also inked and curled the patterned papers, to add another texture to the page.

 

Sketches are such a quick and easy way to get some scrapping done if you are lacking inspiration.  And the great thing is you don't even have to follow them to the letter.  Use them as a starting point, and then you will find that your scrapping mojo tends to take over :)  Don't forget that you can always turn the sketch on it's side or upside down too.  The possibilities are endless!

 

Righto, back to work for me, smoko is nearly over.  To say that I am looking forward to getting home and chilling in front of the fire this afternoon would be an understatement!
