Hi Everyone. Lisa here. Have you heard of 'The Scrapcake' ?
Well lucky me - I finally got to have a play with these gorgeous papers. The range I have used is called 'The Bright side of life'. I only had two pieces of paper from this range and I wanted to make a layout & a card without adding too much else (a little challenge I like to set myself..lol) I thought it would be a good way to show you how to achieve this.
So here is my layout....
Do you recognise this sketch?
Well its the sketch on the blog provided for optional use with our monthly challenge. The sketch was created by Tanya Leigh 'Little Shop of Sketches'.
I thought I would complete my layout as per the sketch. Sketches are all about your perception. You can generally change the orientation of the sketch and modify it slightly, they are great to use as a guide. Today, I have stuck to the sketch quite strictly. As I mentioned earlier I only had 2 pieces of paper from this gorgeous range.
Here is what I had to work with.... (Front & back of pages shown).
I used the blue & pink floral piece called 'Blue Mornings' as my background piece. This gorgeous paper does most of the work for you with its beautiful floral borders & it has a faint imprint of chicken wire and some wording which looks like stamped images. I then played around with second sheet called 'Full Pockets'. I used both sides of this paper. I cut several different sized rectangles until I had all my pieces for my sketch. You don't need to measure, just estimate. I alternated the coloured pieces when laying out. To add more interest as I was only working with two colours - I distressed some edges, inked some, embossed some pieces & stamped the chicken wire stamp (borrowed from a friend) to replicate the image. I did add a piece of card stock to create a mat for my photo - it can help make your photo pop. I also added some silver string to represent the lines across the sketch. Not something I would normally do, but I do like the end result. I added some alpha stickers for my title & some pearls for extra bling.
Well what do you know after the layout with only two sheets of paper....I still had scraps! You know I cannot resist making a card if I have scraps....so here it is...
I had a piece of the pinkish paper left over so I cut a piece out of the centre & reversed it. One border of my scrap piece was from the side of the page so it had a soft green/blue edge...easy just replicate it by inking all the other edges with a matching ink. I like to apply ink to edges with a make up sponge, it gives a really soft subtle effect. I also snuck some Green Tara mesh ribbon & seam binding in. Some punched hearts & a stamped sentiment banner and your done.
I hope I have inspired you to try some new papers that you maybe haven't tried before, get the most of your papers, follow a sketch or maybe even participate in our monthly challenge.
Have a great day.
Lisa.
