Shirl - Princess Shianne - Sketch Layout
Hi Everyone
Yesterday we launched our new blog/challenge theme - "Birthdays and Blooms" and we also shared a sketch from Tanya Leigh with you to help inspire you to enter the challenge.
Our first Design Team layout using the sketch comes from Shirl - and isn't this just gorgeous.
Shirl has used the Magic Happens Collection from Kaisercraft along with some of their beautiful new Paper Blooms which come in 17 different colours.
This layout is just adorable, and a wonderful use of Tanya's sketch.

Sunday Scrapping - New Theme, a Sketch, and meet Lowri
Hi Everyone - Lowri here
First of all a big thank-you to everyone who participated in our Craftathon yesterday to support the Christchurch Earthquake victims. Whether you were there in Timaru or following on-online - we raised a lot of money and had some fun in the process too. Debbie Blincoe won our grand prize - and very generously donated it to someone suffering hardship as a result of the earthquake - WAY TO GO Debbie!!
It's time to launch our new Blog Theme and Blog Challenge - and for the next four weeks the theme will be
Once again - this theme is designed to be VERY broad - we want to see anything and everything to do with birthdays or flowers

How were you introduced to scrapbooking?
When my oldest son was born, I decided to make a scrapbook with pictures of him for my Mother’s birthday. I bought everything from the Warehouse and the $2 shop – and I created absolutely everything from scratch. I then did the same for my other 2 kids when they were born and just as I finished the last one about 18 months ago I discovered that there was a whole ENORMOUS industry dedicated to scrapbooking. Now I am hooked!
What inspires you for layouts, projects, cards?
I get HEAPS of inspiration on-line and I am always on the lookout for items to use in second-hand shops, $2 shops, hardware store, grocery store – you get the picture. I look at a lot of other blogs and if I see something I like I try to re-create it from scratch, putting my own twist on it along the way
What other project types do you like to work on besides scrapbook pages?
I mainly do mini albums, small papercraft pieces, BTP projects and altered items. I find the full-size pages really daunting and I love the idea of making something practical that the recipient can look at frequently. I have yet to make anything for myself – I really must get on that….
What is your favourite scrapbook brand and why?
Well – that is a toughie! My all-time favourite ranges have been from Cosmo Cricket and Crate Paper – but I basically love any collection which offers something a bit more than paper only. I always love to see what Kaisercraft come up with. I don’t always love their collections – but I definitely think they have something for everyone. I like bright and bold colours, but also retro styling and textured, good quality paper.
What scrapbooking tools/products can you not do without?
Adhesive eraser, corner rounder, very sharp knife, metal ruler, dimensional foam tape, fine grit sandpaper and my computer. I use it not only for searching for ideas, but I love to print onto PP, print out text for invitations, cards, etc
What is your current favorite technique or embellishment?
I am very fickle when it comes to this question!! My favorite tends to be the last one I saw that inspired me. I have learned to print anything I really like out – as the chances of me finding it again on-line are slim. Last year – my favourites were the single sheet mini-album I first saw on the Kaiser blog and the Covered Lids tutorial I did. I had so much great feedback as it was a technique not many had seen before
What do you hope to try or improve on this year?
I want to become a little more time-efficient I would also like to work on my photography skills to be able to take great pics of my kids and I really want to learn how to stamp properly!
What advice can you give to people just beginning to enjoy scrapbooking?

| Goldfinger This might seem like a really odd choice of project! It's the inside back cover of the book I made for my Mum featuring my second son. He needed a lot of light treatment when he was born and my brother took this photo as it reminded him of a scene from Goldfinger. I am a huge James Bond fan and it just makes me look back on this stressful time with a smile! I made every element by hand and I also love to look at it to see how my work has progressed! |

What advice can you give to people just beginning to enjoy scrapbooking?
- Enjoy yourself - this is meant to be fun!
- Don’t panic – if it doesn’t work – what have you lost? Most times you can just cover it with a bigger piece of paper and start again!
- You don’t need everything and anything out there– only buy product you love and think you will use in the next 3 months (I really should start heeding that advice!!)
- Find a few people on-line whose styles you admire, follow their blog – ask them questions. There is not a blogger out there who doesn’t love to know people are interested in their work.
- Enter some challenges/DT calls etc. It's hard sometimes to "put yourself out there" but you will find people are friendly and really appreciative you have taken the time to share your work

More ~LOVE~ Layouts ~ Shirl
Hi everyone, I've had a busy day today in my scrap room!
2 Layouts & 3 cards...all before school pick up time!
The 1st layout I just LOVE!!
The photo is ok Mick & I on our wedding day (oh so long ago!)
I can't believe how versitile the "Love Notes" collection is... I really like it and I love this layout!
" Life with you is like a beautiful LOVE song"
Next I did a layout of my daughter Shianne with her best friend Ebony,
still using the "Love Notes" I love the little envelopes that come with this range...so cute!
I used the new kaisercraft "Friendship rub ons" & Friendship clear stamps
"A Beautiful Friendship"
I also made 3 little sentiment cards with the scraps....
On behalf of all my friends & family here in Australia I would like to send a big loving hug to all my New Zealand scrapping friends, its so hard to believe what has happened, my heart goes out to all of you...here's to much better times ahead

Earthquake Contributions
We all feel so helpless in situations like the Christchurch Earthquake. Our thoughts and prayers are with those who are struggling at this time. We know people who need food, water, petrol and money and so we are going to set aside the proceeds from the sales of these kits to distribute to people who are part of the Artfull Crafts community affected by the quake. If you are one of the people who require help, please email us and we will endevour to meet your needs.
We are donating 20 layout kits for this cause that you can purchase at $30 each. There are a range of layout kits available - but it will be potluck which one is included in your package. All of them have been designed by Artfull Crafts DT members and will include instructions and coloured photocopies of the completed project.
We will also donate the proceeds of the Craftathon being held tomorrow. For those of you who live out of town you can buy a Virtual Crop Ticket. We have secured some prizes for people who buy these tickets and we invite you to keep your eye on Facebook tomorrow as we make regular updates and do give-aways etc.

"All About Love" Challenge Winners
"We know that many of you, or your friends and family are affected by the quake. You're in our thoughts and prayers and we feel so hopeless and would love to be able to help. We are holding our planned Craftathon this Saturday 26th Feb 10am - 10pm and as a small gesture we will donate proceeds from the entry fee to the Earthquake relief fund. We also invite Cantabrians to join us on that day if you need a break away. We'll organise some accommodation if necessary. Please let us know."

It seems somehow a little crazy to be thinking about scrapbooking at a time like this, but for me certainly it is a small distraction from the terrible events in Christchurch - I hope it is the same for you.

Will I ever be this happy again? - Tanya Leigh
Hi guys - Tanya Leigh here,
As I live in Christchurch things here haven't been great since yesterday afternoon and we are all so shocked about the whole thing, scared, shaken and tired. My thoughts go out to everyone and their families at this time.
Before the earthquake yesterday I finished a layout that I did using the kit that Liz sent me and wanted to share it with you all.

Tuesday Tip with Shirl
Hi everyone, I've got a few things to show you today, you are probably aware that my favourite style of scrapping is vintage/distressed..I've just got a quick tip on how to acheive an aged look on your paper in a few easy steps..
1st up choose your paper..I usually rip down one side, rip the paper towards yourself then you'll see the layer of the paper underneath...I use the Heidi Swapp edge distresser but the blade of a pair od sissors works just as good..I'm pretty rough when I distress and I don't mind if the paper rips chucks out!
Then I run my ink pad around the edges..again very roughly then I sometimes crease or pinch parts of the paper then very gently run your ink pad over the creased parts and the ink will appear on the raised parts of the paper...this give's it a very old look...just keep inking until you are happy! Very easy!
This is my latest vintage layout...as you can se I LOVE clocks! I had this idea to go crazy with clocks, so I just stamped heaps of then onto a scrap bit of paper (I used the Kaisercraft Clock stamps from the Q1 release "Duchess")
The I just cut them all out with my circle cutter and mounted them at different heights using foam tape...I love how it turned out! Its very easy to get a vintage effect, I just rip bits of paper off or lace or whatever I find and stick them under other bits...layering is a great way to achieve depth on a page...
Now Paper flowers .....we all have 100's of them but I found I was'nt using them as much as I used to as I wanted to use flowers with a more 3d effect (like the Yummy Prima flowers) I went playing with flowers the other day and found it was simple to completly change the apperance of them...just by layering a number of flowers together and securing them with a small brad....
Then Give it a spray with some Glimmermist or even just some water in a spray bottle and then give the smaller flowers a bit of a "scrunch" between your fingers...& hey presto..awesome flowers !!!!
Well everyone....HAPPY SCRAPPING & give my flowers a go! so easy yet very effective!

The Glimmermist adds some lovely sparkle to the paper flowers, the finished flower (above) looks a bit darker as its still a bit wet....
You can see the difference it makes to the appearence of the flowers...
Add a bit more spray & keep scrunching until you are happy...I've done heaps on them and they look great on cards....Well everyone....HAPPY SCRAPPING & give my flowers a go! so easy yet very effective!

Betsy is a very talented papercrafter from Geraldine. She specialises in card-making but also enjoys many other crafts. How were you introduced to cardmaking?
I have always been a rather creative person but around 20 years ago a friend was having a cardmaking day, and she was short on numbers, so being a generous friend I went along to give her an extra pupil. Little did I know where it would lead me! Marion had me hooked.
What inspires you to create your cards?
I love doing personalised cards for people. They give me interests, colour, age and name and I am in my element. Surfing the net is a favorite past-time, getting into many wonderful blogs. There are so many amazing talented ladies out there.
What other projects types do you work on besides cards?
Patchwork is my first love. Between buying fabrics and scrapbook papers my bank account suffers! I did start a scrapbook for my daughter when she had her first baby, doing the first six pages and I have done a number of canvases for my grandchildren.
What is your favourite scrapbook brand and why?
Well what sort of a question is that! There are so many favourites that I find it hard to choose. As I have an addictive nature I buy up many lovely papers (and there are lots) that are on the market just now. Webster's Pages, Graphic 45 and so it goes on.

My easy square and rotary cutter (primarily used for patchwork) are well used in cardmaking, Scor-Pal is another must have, then I could mention cuttlebug, spellbinders, copics, flowers, ribbon, bling, inks - it's never ending. Making my own flowers has me intrigued at the moment although I do love Prima flowers and Kaisercraft also have a lovely new range of Paper Blooms. Colouring with Copics is a favourite, especially with the Magnolia stamps. They are gorgeous.

I pray that I will be good given good health so as to be able to continue doing what I love doing - one being making and teaching cardmaking. Another would be to get more familiar with my computer, and being able to do things with it, like understanding Lowri's instructions and putting them into practice! Now there's a challenge Lowri!
What advice can you give to people just beginning to enjoy cardmaking?
Go for it - you'll absolutely love it and get addicted! Speaking from experience you'll find you never have any money. Just joking!

I pray that I will be good given good health so as to be able to continue doing what I love doing - one being making and teaching cardmaking. Another would be to get more familiar with my computer, and being able to do things with it, like understanding Lowri's instructions and putting them into practice! Now there's a challenge Lowri!
What advice can you give to people just beginning to enjoy cardmaking?
Go for it - you'll absolutely love it and get addicted! Speaking from experience you'll find you never have any money. Just joking!

LOVE - Tanya Leigh
Hi guys, Tanya Leigh here...
Sorry I am late with this but I have had a busy day and have only just walked in the door so thought I better upload before heading off to bed. Liz sent me the lovely Bo Bunny papers to work with this month. Now with having 3 boys in the house and me being the only girl I had to think about what I was going to do with pink paper...LOL!!! There are only so many photo's you can scrap of yourself :)
So I did this.....
This album I did for my wee Noah. As his Dad doesn't live with us and Noah talks about his Dad all the time I did this for Noah to have in his room so he can look at it when ever he misses his Dad.

I also made the bling charm on the side of the book, just to finish it off. It has hearts on it and also some angel wings on the bottom. I have shown Noah's Dad and he just about cried with what I had done and the photo's of him and Noah together.
And also I made a card using the kit....

Sisterly LOVE ~ Shirl
Hi everyone, sorry this post is a bit late, its my son's 8th birthday today and as I type this I have 6... 8yo boys running around being very noisey, & yep they're all having a sleepover...(not sure what I was thinking when I agreed to that...he must've got me at a weak moment..lol)
Anyway the layout I want to share with you today is of my 2 beautiful neices Amelia & Isabelle, its a special photo of them as it was taken just before we went to my Dads funeral back in 2005.
I've used Swiss dot bazzil cardstock & Kaisercraft "love notes" paper and "Bella" rub-ons... Very Simple!

Also the little pink heart is Websters whimzy...very cute!
Right better hop to it and cook some chicken nuggets & chips for all these kids!!

Betsy - Love Birds
Hi everyone. It's Liz here showing off some of Betsy's LOVEly creations! (Betsy is laid up after having some more surgery today - we wish her well as she recovers). She's used the lovely new Fancy Pants "Love Bird" papers. The colours are lovely and soft and work well with organza ribbon.
This first card has used a scallop Bazzill card folded in half as the background. She's added the Love Birds papers on top and round the edges. In true form she's cut out the tag with Spellbinders Fancy Tags and used a Kaisercraft rub on "wish" sentiment. Betsy has used the Martha Stewart Zig-Zag punch up the side.
Card Two: Betsy loves the EK Success Retro flower Punches. Fold the petals in half widthways to add some extra interest. She's also cut the labels from Spellbinders dies.
Card Three: This shadow card is easy to make and is so effective. Look for a blog with the template. She's used Glazed Bazzill cardstock for the background. If you haven't tried Glazed cardstock you should! It's a high quality product and is exceptional for cards.
Card Four: Besty love mounting foam dots - so this card is filled with raised up sections. The hearts have kindy glitz added to them to give them some sparkle, and the punch used at the bottom of the patterned paper is the Martha Stewart Foral Deep Vine edger punch.
Card Five: Easel Cards are popular and people love them. This one has used the Fancy Tags (Spellbinders) mounted on foam to provide the stopping point for the card. Betsy loves to look online for pictures to print out and use on her cards. Add some bling and ribbon and you're done!
